Born in Preston, England, in 1959, Andy Walmsley has always been fueled by a love for travel and adventure. His journey into the world of exploration began with mountaineering, but an accident in 1981, which resulted in the loss of his right arm, shifted his path. Undeterred by this challenge, Andy embraced the world of fellrunning, racing across hills and mountains in the rugged landscapes of northern England.
While building a successful career as an aerospace engineer, Andy also nurtured his passion for the outdoors. Over the years, he authored two well-regarded walking guides for Cicerone Press and contributed to publications like The Fell Runner Magazine and various automotive journals.
After his first marriage ended in 1992, Andy became a single father, raising his daughter while continuing his passion for fellrunning and thriving in his professional career. At the age of 58, he retired from both competitive running and engineering, relocating to Spain with his second wife, Gill.
Since his move to Spain, Andy has penned a three-part autobiography, a guide on triking in Spain, and a book on the challenges and rewards of relocating abroad. His latest projects focus on fellrunning and triking adventures across various regions of Spain, offering readers an in-depth look at life and exploration in the Iberian Peninsula.
